Conversions are essential to running profitable ad campaigns. This article will guide you through setting up and using conversions for better ad results.
What are conversions?
Conversions are actions that you want your website visitors to take after viewing your ads. These actions could be purchasing, signing up for a newsletter, filling out a contact form, or downloading an app. Tracking these actions helps you optimize your campaigns for better performance & understand their effectiveness.
How do I set up conversions in Shown?
There are two ways to set up conversions within Shown:
- Create Shown conversions
- Import conversions from your ad accounts
Shown conversions
You can create Shown conversions via the settings > conversions tab or within the campaign creation flow. Once on the conversion screen, follow these steps:
- Click on +new
- Select the conversion type:
- URL will allow you to track website visitors reaching a specific page, such as a 'thank-you' page after a purchase/signup, to track sales or leads
- Events are for conversions automatically created after you have integrated with one of our conversions-supported integrations, including Shopify, Wix, Squarespace & Wordpress.
- Give your conversion a category: leads or sales.
- You can also give a value to your conversion, but this is optional
- Give a name & save
Note that for Shown conversions to work, you will have to install our pixel on your website. This will allow Shown to track, create & publish conversions on all ad platforms, including Google, Microsoft, Meta, etc.
If your Shown pixel is not yet installed, you'll have to follow these steps:
- Choose between manual installation or via integrations
- Integrations will automate this step
- If you choose manual installation, copy/paste our pixel on your website
- After pasting it on your website, verify if it is being detected
- If you have a problem, contact support
Import conversions
Another way to set up conversions is to import them directly from your existing ad accounts. You can do this by following these steps:
- Click on +new
- Choose integrations on top
- Connect your ad accounts & select the conversion you want to import
- Make sure to match the same conversion from the different ad platform
- matching is required as Shown ad campaigns are cross-channel & optimized towards one single conversion.
Best practices for conversions
- Use integrations whenever possible. This will allow us to automate the entire process of tracking and creating conversions without mistakes. We will add more integrations over time.
- Keep conversions simple. Don't try to track too many actions & focus only on the most important ones for your business.
- Make sure to verify if tracking & conversions are working as soon as possible to avoid delays in your campaign optimization.
- When manually installing the conversion tracking pixel, please add it to the Javascript - Head area of your website.
